Why X-rays?

Why Xrays?

You wouldn’t want a surgeon cutting into you without knowing where the problem area is, right?  The same concept applies to x-rays for chiropractic care.  X-rays can aid in the following:

·         Provide a structural record of your spine

·         Rule out cancer, disease or other pathologies

·         Locate fractures or other signs of trauma

·         Identify evidence of long term spinal decay

·         Confirm other examination findings

At Corrective Chiropractic, your health and well-being are our first priority.  We only take the most necessary views, use the most up-to-date equipment, have sensitive films to shorten exposure time and make sure our equipment is up to code by having it regularly inspected by both the State of Texas and an independent X-ray company specializing in routine maintenance.

 X-ray Exposure – Am I At Risk?

Any radiation dose must be compared to the benefits of useful information gained, although there is no current data indicating diagnostic radiology has risk.  The necessity for appropriate treatment selection is an acceptable trade-off when put into context, and the need for x-ray imagining is especially clear when one considers that x-rays are the ONLY VALID METHOD for determining abnormal spinal alignment and the presence of any spinal degeneration.  In addition to their useful diagnostic benefits, there has been a growing knowledge base since 1900 suggesting that medical x-rays may even have health benefits; although this may seem outrageous, there is a great deal of scientific evidence to support this field of study known as Radiation Hormesis.

Radiation Hormesis is the stimulatory or beneficial effect of low doses of ionizing radiation and is in direct conflict with the “Linear No-Threshold Hypothesis” (LNT) which has been assumed to be true for more than 50 years.  The LNT model comes from estimating risks at lower doses of radiation, in the absence of data, by extrapolating a linear model from the extremely large doses of radiation from atomic bombs dropped on Japan in the 1940s.
