Gum Disease

Mar 12th, 2010 | Category: Weekly Health Updates

3 out of 4 people suffer from gum disease — from mild cases of gingivitis, to periodontitis. Only 3% seek treatment for their gum disease. Research indicates gum disease may be linked to other diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and certain forms of cancer. Red, swollen and bleeding gums are an important sign of periodontal disease. If you notice bleeding while brushing or flossing, or when eating certain foods, you should visit your dental professional. Routine oral care, including brushing after every meal and before bed, and flossing at least once a day, is the best way to prevent gum disease.          American Academy of Periodontology
